Gojek: Indonesia’s First $10B Tech Start-Up

2015
Ice House helped Gojek design & implement the largest same-day 24/7 delivery service, including real-time tracking.

With over 2 million drivers and over 40 million monthly active users, Go-Jek is a large-scale app.

Gojek is Southeast Asia’s leading on-demand, multi-service tech platform providing access to a wide range of services including: transport, payments, food delivery, logistics, and many more. Founded in 2010, Gojek provides solutions to Jakarta’s ever-present traffic problems through the use of technology to improve the lives of users. The Gojek app was launched in January 2015 for users in Indonesia to provide motorbike ride-sharing (GoRide). Other services like delivery (GoSend), shopping (GoMart) and other services (GoBox, GoTix, GoBusway).

Today, Gojek has transformed into a “Super App”: a one-stop platform with more than 20 services, connecting users with over 2 million registered driver-partners, 500,000 GoFood merchants – with a total of more than 170 million total downloads across the region, and valued over $10 billion USD.

Go-Box

Go-Jek outsourced the development Gobox, of its truck hailing service, to Ice House. Through this Android and iOS app, users can order and pay for pickup and closed medium-sized trucks (mobil box) to transport goods between two locations. The Go-Box service has since become an integral part of Go-Jek’s product, attracting millions of users every week. Not only was the end user app (iOS/Android) developed by Ice House, but we also developed the driver app (Android only) along with the dispatch engine, which was initially deployed on AWS.

Go-Tix

Go Tix was the next app in Gojek’s strategic plan. It provides the users with the ability to order tickets for various venues such as: cinemas, concerts, etc. The main issue that Ice House had to overcome was linking to these venues. For instance: when the user orders a ticket to a movie, the online stock of available seats in the cinema has to be checked. In addition, an integration with the ticketing machines also had to be built for when the user arrives at the cinema.

Scope We Handled

Go-Busway

Go-Busway was introduced as a test to see if real-time integration with city infrastructure was possible. By looking at the real-time locations of busses, users are able to schedule their GoRide to arrive concordantly with their bus. Ice House not 0nly built the backend integration with the busway systems, but also built an iOS and Android app for the users to track the buses.

Our Works

Ice House delivered the consumer app on iOS and Android, the driver app on Android, and the full backend within the extremely tight deadline of 4 months. For Go-Box, all of this was achieved on time and on budget, meeting Go-Jek’s expectations and supporting the expansion of their services thus further developing their business.
